Rescuers in the Lake District were today called to help a walker who slipped on a frozen path and broke his leg.

The incident happened at Glenamara Park, above Patterdale, as the man, from Bolton, was walking with his family. Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team went to his aid after being alerted by police.

A spokesman for the team said: “On reaching the casualty site, the team assessed the man’s injuries as a fractured lower leg. The leg was splinted and the man was placed in a stretcher.”

He was carried from the fell down to the road and then transported by the team’s Land Rover  to its rescue headquarters, from where an ambulance took him to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

Glenamara Park lies to the West of Arnison Crag, between Patterdale and Helvellyn.
