Police have named the man who fell to his death in the Lake District yesterday.

He was Paul Percy, 44, a teacher at Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria. He was walking with a friend, also believed to be a teacher at the school, when he fell into Dungeon Ghyll in Great Langdale.

Mountain rescuers said it was likely Mr Percy fell about 70m (230ft) into the gill. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The school said in a statement that Mr Percy was highly regarded by staff and students.
