Police say the man whose body was found on Snowdon yesterday was a 27-year-old from the Shrewsbury area.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said the man’s name would be released later.

He was found by mountain rescuers dealing with another incident in which two men fell from Clogwyn Coch, close to the Snowdon Mountain Railway Clogwyn station.

A series of rescues, the most serious of which happened on Snowdon, prompted a joint appeal by the police and mountain rescue teams for inexperienced walkers to stay off the high mountains during the severe conditions prevailing.

Only experienced climbers and walkers, they said, should attempt mountain paths. Crampons and ice axes should be carried and used and those venturing on to the Snowdonia mountains should know how to use the equipment.
