A man was airlifted from Snowdon today after becoming cragfast on Crib Goch.

The walker, in his 30s and from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, rang for help from his mobile phone after getting into difficulties in worsening conditions on the ridge.

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team went to the man’s aid and a Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley managed to winch him from the site.

He had set off early this morning, Sunday, to climb to Snowdon’s summit via Crib Goch. Although he had an ice axe, he was not wearing crampons and could get no further when he phoned rescue services.

The rescue operation was carried out as hail and snow storms swept the mountain. The walker was uninjured.
