Julie Bradbury on the Coast-to-Coast route

Julia Bradbury’s Coast-to-Coast Walk continues tonight with a trip through the Heart of the Lakes.

In the second of the six-part series following the Grumpy Old Fellwalker’s route from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay, the cameras follow her progress from Rosthwaite to Shap. Rain is again the theme, having set off from the west Cumbrian coast during one of the wettest Augusts in memory.

The BBC4 series, produced by Skyworks, airs at 8.30pm tonight, Thursday. This evening’s route, following Alfred Wainwright’s suggestion, takes us from the Borrowdale village, over Greenup Edge to Grasmere, then into Patterdale before crossing the High Street range and descending into Mardale and finally out of the Lake District to the quiet village strung out along the A6, formerly the main route north before the construction of the nearby M6.

The Dublin-born presenter is no stranger to Wainwright’s routes, having fronted the two series based on his Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells.
