More details have been released about the incident in which a man died while walking in the Lake District on Friday.

As we reported, Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team recovered the man’s body from the area, at Holme Force, above Loweswater. The walker’s family have thanked the rescuers for their assistance.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Constabulary said the man was walking with his father when the accident happened. He fell from the ravine into the beck below. Police were called just after 1.30pm on Friday.

The spokesperson continued: “Local officers and members of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team attended the scene but unfortunately the 39-year-old man was found to have died from injuries sustained in the fall. Cumbria Air Ambulance also attended the scene and after examination, Cockermouth MRT recovered the deceased from the ravine.”

Inspector Connolly of Cockermouth and Keswick neighbourhood policing team said: “This was a tragic incident which occurred in a remote and difficult location at Loweswater.

“My sympathy goes to the family and friends of the deceased. I also wish to express my thanks and gratitude to Mike Park, leader of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue and his team who attended the incident.

“Without their assistance and expertise, the recovery of the deceased would have been very difficult for us. The family of the deceased have asked me to extend their thanks also to Cockermouth MRT.”
