Ben More, scene of the fatal incident on Saturday

A man has died after becoming trapped by a boulder on a Highland munro.

Mountain rescuers joined firefighters in the operation to free the 62-year-old, who was reported trapped shortly before midday on Saturday on Ben More near Crianlarich.

Killin Mountain Rescue Team joined 17 firefighters from Killin, Alloa, Stirling, Crianlarich and Tyndrum in the incident, prompted by a call from the Scottish Ambulance Service which had been called to the scene on the 1,174m (3,852ft) mountain.

A statement from Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service said: “Due to the terrain, firefighters had to use 4×4 vehicles to gain access to the casualty.

“Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

A spokesperson said: “The service offers our condolences to the man’s family at this difficult time.”

The man was believed to be a sheep farmer. His son was said to be at the scene helping with the attempt to save him.
