A walker has died after falling from sea cliffs in Easter Ross yesterday evening.

The 47-year-old woman was with her partner when the incident happened, about 5.55pm on Wednesday. She fell about 9m (30ft) near the Tarbat Ness lighthouse, Portmahomack and sustained serious head injuries.

A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary said: “Ambulance and police were alerted and the woman was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital [Inverness] for treatment. However, she sadly passed away as a result of her injuries at 1am this morning.

“The death does not appear to be suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”

The woman’s identity is not being released until all her next of kin have been informed
