The two-day search by more than 100 volunteer members of the Arrochar, Lomond, Oban and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Teams and the Trossachs Search and Rescue Team failed to find Suzanne Pilley’s body in the forests and hillsides of Glen Croe, Argyll.

The hunt for the woman’s body was organised by Lothian and Borders Police, with support from the Strathclyde force, in an attempt to find the 38-year-old bookkeeper’s remains. She disappeared while on her way to work in Edinburgh on 4 May.

The volunteers were joined by between 30 and 40 police officers in the search near The Cobbler, west of Arrochar.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Flannigan said it was the first time his force had involved mountain rescue teams from across Scotland in such a search.

Ms Pilley’s colleague and lover David Gilroy has been charged with her murder.
