The body of a man was found by workers on a Snowdonia hillside.

The grim discovery was made near the Sarn Helen Roman road between Moel Siabod and the village of Dolwyddelan.

Two members of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation were flown to the area by North Wales Police’s helicopter and another five team members used the organisation’s Land Rover to reach the area to help with recovery of the body.

The remains were then flown by the helicopter to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. A post-mortem examination has yet to be carried out.

North-East Wales Coroner John Hughes has been informed; an inquest will be opened once the examination has been concluded.

An elderly man went missing in the area two years ago, but the identity of the body has not yet been confirmed.
