Open water swimmers at Capernwray

Hardy outdoor types looking for a bonfire week experience with a difference can take to the waters for a night swim.

The Dip in the Dark event offers swimmers the chance to tackle a 500m course, with glowing buoys marking the route. The evening, at an open water venue in Lancashire, ends with a firework display and barbecue.

The swim, organised by Adventure Challenge Solutions, will also feature snap lights for wetsuit zips. Temperature at the Capernwray Dive Centre, near Carnforth in north Lancashire, is expected to be between 14 and 16C. Safety marshals in canoes will be on hand, along with a speed boat for extra safety cover.

The event organisers aim to bring the open swimming season to an end with a bang with the night swim and pyrotechnics on 3 November.
