Police appealed to walkers to watch out for changeable weather and shorter days after two walkers had to be led to safety when they were stranded by rising water levels in mountain streams.

The man and woman were rescued by members of the Skye Mountain Rescue Team after calling for help yesterday evening, Thursday.

They were descending Coire na Creiche on the western side of the Cuillin range above Glen Brittle on Skye, when they were unable to continue because the burns around the Fairy Pools were in spate after heavy rain.

A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary said: “Due to the fading daylight, they had insufficient time to retrace their route.

“The couple managed to ascend to a point where they obtained a mobile phone signal and contacted emergency services. Six members of Skye Mountain Rescue Team attended and led the couple to safety.

“Police would like to remind all hillwalkers to be aware of the changeable weather conditions and reducing daylight hours at this time of year.”
