Ingleborough, scene of the search for three walkers lost in darkness

Members of the Cave Rescue Organisation are currently searching one of Yorkshire’s Three Peaks after a report of three walkers who are lost.

The incident came on the first day Britain reverted to Greenwich Mean Time, meaning daylight starts to fade about 4.30pm.

The three called for help from Ingleborough about 6.15pm, saying they were lost in the dark.

A member of the Search and Rescue Dogs Association has now joined the search on the 723m (2,372ft) peak in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Clapham-based rescue team, which conducts searches and rescues both on fells and caves, had to go to the aid of three wild campers who became cragfast ten days ago after waking to low cloud.

Experts have appealed to walkers to pack a torch when heading on to the hills as the days shorten.

  • UPDATE: The walkers were found about 7.40pm by CRO and Sarda members on the edge of the summit plateau above Swine Tail. Rescuers say they are unharmed but cold. The trio is being helped to safety in the valley.
