Mr Rafferty died in a fall on Ben Nevis's north face

Police have named the climber who died yesterday after falling on Ben Nevis’s north face.

Student Daniel Rafferty, 19, of Alness, Easter Ross, was fatally injured in the fall in Tower Gully on Sunday.

His companions dialled 999 at 5.18pm to alert police to the incident. Members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team went to the scene, and a Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth was called in.

The man’s body was recovered from the site on the 1,344m (4,409ft) mountain, Britain’s highest.

Northern Constabulary said a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in Fort William.
