Members of the Cave Rescue Organisation helped the pair to safety

A caver was helped to the surface by rescuers yesterday after being reported stuck in an underground system.

The 23-year-old woman had become exhausted in Peterson Pot on Leck Fell in Lancashire late yesterday, Saturday.

The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation was alerted at 10.20pm after the woman was reported to be trapped at the top of the pot’s 9m (30ft) third pitch.

Volunteers from the rescue organisation found the woman and her 23-year-old male caving companion exiting Roly Poly Passage, a tube section below the cave’s second pitch.

A spokesperson for the team said: “Both were assisted to the surface and up to the road on Leck Fell.”
