A walker was found safe after going missing overnight in the Highlands.

The Glen Doll ranger raised the alarm after 68-year-old Dundonian Leo Fewster failed to return to his vehicle yesterday evening.

A major operation involving the Tayside Mountain Rescue Team, Tayside Police Search and Rescue Team and handlers and animals from the Search and Rescue Dogs Association began, with air support from a Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth.

The search was in an area close to where the avalanched body of Dougie Lang was found four days previously in Corrie Fee below Mayar.

Mr Fewster, described by police as an experienced hillwalker and well equipped, was found at 4.15am today, almost 12 hours after he went missing.

He was found uninjured but cold in a forest area below the Kilbo Path and was able to walk, accompanied by rescuers, to a waiting ambulance. Police said he was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee as a precautionary measure.
