A group of youngsters was helped from a Lakeland forest by rescuers after getting lost.

The six were taking part in a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award gold expedition when they became disorientated in conditions described as dark and misty by the rescue team.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at 8.55pm yesterday and 14 members of the team went to the group’s aid in Grizedale Forest near Satterthwaite.

A spokesperson for the rescuers said: “The group was found safe and well and reunited with their group leaders.”
