The girl had to be freed from the cave at Ribblehead

A young caver had to be rescued after getting stuck in a Yorkshire Dales system.

The 12-year-old girl became physically stuck while trying to get out of Runscar Cave at Ribblehead on Sunday.

Despite her group’s attempts to free her, they were unable to extricate the girl from the exit.

The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation was called out about 1.45pm and went to the girl’s aid.

Team members were able to manipulate her and release her from the limestone, uninjured.

  • On the way back to their base, CRO members came across a road accident at Newby on the A65 where a motorcyclist had suffered injuries. The volunteers performed first aid on the biker and called the emergency services before handing over the incident to an ambulance crew.
