Police are appealing for information after an osprey perch was damaged.

North Wales Police said the perch, which was on an old telegraph pole on the banks of the Avon Glaslyn at Pont Croesor near Porthmadog, was damaged when it was removed from the ground.

They are seeking witnesses who may have seen the incident, which happened between 6.30pm on Monday 21 March and 7am on Tuesday 22 March, or anyone who might have information about the damage, to contact them.

The site, on an RSPB reserve, is home to the only known pair of breeding ospreys in north Wales. The male arrived earlier than expected in mid-March; the pair have been returning to nest at the site, 4km (2½ miles) north-east of Porthmadog, since 2004, making the journey from west Africa each year.

Police ask anyone with information to contact PC Dewi Evans at Porthmadog police station on 101 (if in Wales) or on 0845 6071001 (Welsh language line), 0845 6071002 (English language line). Alternatively, anyone with information can also contact Crimestoppers with information anonymously on 0800 555 111.
