The walker was rescued while attempting the ascent of Pen-y-ghent

A walker attempting the Yorkshire Three Peaks was rescued today in high wind and rain on one of the mountains.

The Cave Rescue Organisation was alerted at 7.50am after the 42-year-old man got into difficulties on Pen-y-ghent.

Members of the rescue team, which operates on both the fells and caves of the Dales, went to the man’s aid.

Team members found the man suffering from hypothermia on the route up the fell from Horton in Ribblesdale and brought him off the hill to Dale Head.

He was then brought down to Stainforth to a waiting ambulance.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge entails summiting Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough and completing the 39km (24 mile) in less than 12 hours.
