A walker was airlifted to hospital after breaking her leg in a fall in the Lake District.

The 60-year-old woman, from the USA, was walking on the path along the southern shore of Ennerdale Water today when she slipped and injured herself.

Members of the Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team were called about 12.55pm and 20 members went to the woman’s aid.

She was treated and stretchered by team members to the waiting Great North Air Ambulance which flew her to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
