A group of climbers is putting on a night of lectures this weekend to help a fellow alpinist who has cancer.

Climbing superstar Leo Houlding will recount his free-route ascent of The Prophet on El Capitan in Yosemite.

He will be joined at the evening event by special guest Jason Pickles.

Also on the bill are Ben Bransby, with his lecture entitled Watching the Weather in Patagonia, on the subject of more free routes and first ascents in the Fitzroy Massif, and Adam Long’s Ground-Up Gritstone – the story of two decades on Britain’s grit.

The evening kicks off at 7pm this Sunday, 12 June, at the Maynard, Main Road, Grindleford, in the Peak District.

Proceeds will go to help American climber and alpinist Bean Bowers in his fight against cancer.

There will also be an auction and tombola with items from DMM, Patagonia, Evolv, Berghaus, The Climbing Works, Vertebrate Publishing, UKClimbing, Metolius, Posing Productions and Outside.

Tickets are £10 and are available from the Outside store, Hathersage, the Climbing Works indoor wall or by emailing Ben Bransby.
