A mountain biker was airlifted to hospital after coming off his bike at a popular forest.

Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team and the Cave Rescue Organisation went to the aid of the 35-year-old man about 11.40am today, Sunday, after he crashed and injured his knee on the Hully Gully route in Gisburn Forest in Lancashire.

He was treated at the site by paramedics before the rescuers stretchered him back up the track to a waiting air ambulance.

Hully Gully is on the red-rated The Eight route and includes an optional black-rated section on the 18km (11-mile) track.
