A walker collapsed and died on a Yorkshire Dales fell.

The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation was alerted about 1.05pm today after reports the walker was in difficulties near Weets Top above Gordale.

A spokesperson for the rescuers said: “CRO responded but was stood down en-route when it was unfortunately confirmed as a fatality, and could be dealt with by the ambulance service.”

Weets Top lies about 2½km (1½miles) east of Malham.
