A walker was stretchered from a path after suffering a suspected broken ankle.

Members of the Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team were called out at 1.30pm on Sunday after the woman slipped on a muddy path while walking near the shore of Crummock Water in the western Lake District.

The woman, from Hertfordshire, was treated at the scene by the volunteer rescuers, who then carried her a mile to an ambulance waiting at Buttermere village.

Thirty-one team members were involved in the rescue and evacuation of the walker.
