A mountain rescue team is quids in after a joint fundraising evening with local community groups.

Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team joined three other organisations in a hog roast and auction of promises that raised a total of £3,700.

The event, at Upper Eden Rugby Club, was visited by 170 people and the rescuers were joined by members of the rugby club, Kirkby Stephen Scout Group and the town’s primary school in the joint fundraiser.

Promises up for offer included a day’s caving, a birthday cake and a meal for six cooked in the winner’s home by a professional chef.

Kirkby Stephen MRT covers the Howgill Fells, the north-western Yorkshire Dales, part of the north Pennines and the Orton Fells.
