The Expedition Heavyweight

Outdoor brand Berghaus is dipping its toe into the sock market with a range to complement its footwear.

The new socks divide into three categories: expedition, hiking and trail sports, with 14 different styles in women’s and men’s versions.

Each sock features Berghaus’s Argentium silver ion technology to maximise anti-odour properties and anti-microbial action.

The expedition and hiking models combine what Berghaus claims is the first ever blend of merino wool and Primaloft which, it says, maximises the combined benefits of natural and synthetic fibres. The mixture of both materials delivers maximum warmth and comfort during extended use.

The Expedition Heavyweight Crew, with a recommended price of £18 is the warmest and most padded sock in the new range. Woven with heavy terry wool, the company says the socks work hard to keep feet dry, warm and blister free. The Ergonomic Holding System slingshot heel support provides comfortable compression around the heel to prevent slippage, working in conjunction with Berghaus’s trekking and mountaineering boots.

Its extra padding in the heel and dorsal areas and external nylon panels in the heel and toe for maximum comfort and abrasion resistance makes the Expedition Heavyweight a sock suited for use on tough mountain routes.

The unisex Hiking Lightweight Crew, selling at £12, enables wearers to stay light on their feet and hike in comfort, and is perfect for summer walking, Berghaus says. Its combination of merino wool and Argentium Primaloft means moisture is wicked away from the foot, keeping feet drier even in extremely warm summer conditions. The EHS helps keep the foot secure in place in the boot or shoe and aids comfort while in use.

Additional moisture management is offered in the styles for high endurance activity with the use of Opti-Mesh ventilation panels on the instep to provide maximum dryness, breathability and comfort.

The Fast Track Cushioned ½ Crew at £13 is one of the new styles to incorporate the technology. Coupled with the use of a hollow and channelled ThermoCool yarns to create a greater surface area for heat to disperse from and evaporate moisture more quickly, the company says this high-performing sock is the ideal companion for fast-moving sports.

More details will appear on the Berghaus website as the socks hit the shops.
