A walker who was airlifted to hospital has died from his injuries.

Craig Cathie, 19, fell between 6m and 9m (20ft and 30ft) yesterday while walking with a group of 16 on the Flowerdale Estate near An Àrd, south of Gairloch in Wester Ross.

Mr Cathie, of Moodiesburn, near Glasgow suffered head injuries in the fall and was treated by Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team at the scene before being airlifted to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, by a Stornoway Coastguard search and rescue helicopter, but died in hospital.

A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary said the walker’s next of kin have been informed. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
