A walker was rescued after suffering a suspected broken ankle in a slip on a Lakeland path.

Members of the Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of the woman from Buckinghamshire after she slipped on ice near the bottom of the Scarth Gap path near Buttermere lake yesterday, Monday.

The team was alerted about 12.50pm and 24 members took part in the rescue.

The woman was treated at the scene by the team’s doctor before being carried by stretcher to an ambulance at Gatesgarth.

She was then taken to West Cumberland Infirmary in Whitehaven for further treatment.

  • Kendal Mountain Rescue Team was in action helping emergency services over the weekend as wintry weather hit Cumbria.

On Sunday, the team was called out to help two care workers to a remote address near the village of Gatebeck, south-east of the town. Volunteers from the team then took a dialysis patient back to his home in Dent after he had been stranded in hospital due to the severe weather.

Kendal MRT members were also put on standby to help police and ambulance staff on Saturday evening.
