The man fell in the craggy area near Levers Hause

A walker was airlifted from a fell after suffering serious injuries in a fall.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at 4.05pm yesterday, and 17 members went to the aid of the man, who managed to raise the alarm himself.

The mountain rescue team found the man in a craggy area above Townson Cove near Levers Hause, which lies between the Old Man of Coniston and Swirl How.

The volunteer treated his serious injuries at the site and requested a helicopter.

A Sea King from RAF Boulmer in Northumberland flew to the scene and airlifted the injured man to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for further medical treatment.
