The walkers got lost near the summit of Great Gable

Two walkers were rescued after getting lost in poor visibility on a Lakeland fell.

The pair called for help after losing their way near the summit of Great Gable.

The walkers made their way from Borrowdale up neighbouring Green Gable before getting lost in mist on the 899m (2,949ft) mountain.

Fifteen volunteers from the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team took part in the search and rescue of the walkers, who were found near Beck Head, north of the summit and accompanied down to safety in Wasdale.

The rescue lasted almost four hours and was the Wasdale team’s 13th of the year.

  • A 64-year-old woman was stretchered from a popular Lakeland fell after breaking her wrist.

The walker was given pain relief by members of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team after slipping on Cat Bells, the 451m (1,480ft) peak west of Derwent Water, and falling on to her outstretched arm.

After being carried to safety she was taken by ambulance to hospital.
