Fleetwith Pike, scene of the rescue

A man was rescued after getting stuck on a Lakeland fell.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of the walker who had become cragfast on Fleetwith Pike.

The team was alerted shortly after 6pm today and located the man on rocky ground above the memorial cross on the north-western ridge of the 648m (2,126ft) mountain.

A team spokesperson said: “The casualty was assisted from the crag and walked off the hill to Gatesgarth uninjured.”

The incident was the 10th callout for the Cockermouth team this year and was over an hour and a half after the team was alerted.
