The Black Diamond Icon
Black Diamond has redesigned its powerful Icon headtorch and introduced a lightweight lamp aimed at fast-paced outdoors fans.
The Icon has an impressive 200-lumen output and is designed to provide maximum lighting in any weather.
Its balanced batteries are housed in a completely waterproof housing and the torch is equipped with one QuadraPower LED; two SinglePower white LEDs and two SinglePower red LEDs.
It has settings for full-strength in distance and proximity modes; a dimming strobe; red night-vision, and locked.
The red LEDs can be turned on without cycling through the white mode, to help retain night-vision.
The company said it is protected against immersion in water down to one metre for 30 minutes and also has a three-level power meter which displays the remaining battery life for three seconds after it is turned off.
“This is a robust and powerful piece of kit which is easy to use and built to last,” Black Diamond said.
Weight, with four AA batteries, is 220g and the Icon retails at £74.99.

The Spot headtorch is new for 2012 and has a 90-lumen output. The company said: “Spot is perfect for any fast paced activity with its sleek low profile design, light weight and exacting array of lighting modes.”
It has a TriplePower LED; 2 SinglePower white LEDs and 2 SinglePower red LEDs. Again, the red LEDs can be activated without cycling through the white modes.
Settings include full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red night vision and lock mode and it is also protected against water sprayed from any angle and has the same power meter as the Icon.
The Spot takes three AA batteries and weighs 90g. It sells for £39.99.
