A climber suffered serious injuries in a fall from one of the Peak District’s most popular crags.

The 54-year-old man from Alfreton, Derbyshire, was leading a climb on Saturday on High Neb, Stanage Edge, when he came off the route and hit the ground.

Members of Edale Mountain Rescue Team, who were fundraising in Hathersage and Edale, were alerted just after 3pm and made their way to the scene.

The climber was treated for a broken pelvis and back pain, immobilised in a pelvic splint and placed on a spinal board. He was also given morphine for his pain.

Team members then stretchered the injured climber to the waiting Midlands Air Ambulance which had landed on the hillside, and he was airlifted to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

The following day, the Edale team was called out to help a mountain biker who had crashed on a track above Ladybower Reservoir.

The 37-year-old rider suffered a very painful dislocated hip in the crash while coming down the track.

The crew of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance arrived at the scene at the same time as the Edale team and worked with them to treat the man.

He was immobilised in a pelvic splint and placed on a long board and was also given morphine and Entonox to ease his pain.

The team then carefully stretchered the biker to the Ladybower Inn where the air ambulance had landed, and he was airlifted to the Northern General Hospital.
