Rescuers are offering one supporter the chance to be immortalised in a blockbuster novel.

Multi-million selling author Lee Child has put up the unique prize of a place in his next work to the winner of a charity auction for Brecon Mountain Rescue Team.

The person who wins tomorrow’s auction will be written into a next novel by the author, whose brother is a volunteer with the south Wales rescue team.

Mr Child, famous for his Jack Reacher novels featuring a former US military police major turned vigilante, has sold 50 million books worldwide.

The Coventry-born, New York-based writer, whose real name is Jim Grant, has already given Brecon MRT £10,000 towards their £60,000 target for a new control vehicle.

Kevin Harding from the team, who organised the auction at the Three Horseshoes Inn, at Groesffordd, Brecon, said: “We’ve been inundated with enquiries about this.

“Mr Child has offered the chance to bid to be a character in his next book which is due out next year.

“The winner can choose for their name, or nominated person, to be a good or bad character in the next global bestseller.”

Other lots up for grabs include holiday breaks, meals, theatre tickets, brewing experiences and activity events.

Mr Harding added: “We are so grateful to Mr Child. His support, along with so many other people who have kindly donated the lots in the auction are the reason we can carry on doing our search and rescue work.”
