Five men will walk to the top of Wales’s highest mountain in memory of a friend who fell to his death on the hill earlier this year.

The five, all from the Stockport area of Greater Manchester, will tackle the route to the 1,085m (3,560ft) summit of Snowdon next month to raise cash for mountain rescuers and Help for Heroes.

The men will make the journey up the Llanberis path as a tribute to Stuart Tyrer whose body was found following a major search by Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, RAF Valley Mountain Rescue Team and members of the Search and Rescue Dogs Association Wales on 11 April.

He had been reported missing the previous evening.

Organiser Jake Bryan will be joined by Jamie Kenyon, Mike Geldard, Rick Wills and Charlie Egan on the walk and the men are encouraging members of the public to make the ascent with them.

Proceeds from the walk will be shared between the Llanberis team and the armed services charity Help for Heroes.

The five and Mr Tyrer met when they were air cadets. Mr Bryan said: “On 10 April our best friend Stuart Tyrer decided to embark on a hike he had been wanting to do for a very long time.

“Stuart had volunteered to work at a branch of Ellis Brigham in the Snowdonia area and had been excited to climb Snowdon on his first available day off.

“Stuart left for his solo hike on the morning of Tuesday and had reached the summit later that day.

“He texted his parents to say he has reached the summit but unfortunately not too soon after Stuart tragically slipped and fell to his death.

“The alarm was raised by colleagues at work when he did not arrive home at the time he said he would.”

Mr Bryan said the two charities were close to their friend’s heart.

He added: “Any person who wishes may climb Snowdon with us, even if they just want to cheer us on. The Llanberis path follows the route of the train and they can ride the train all the way to the top.”

Mr Bryan has a blog page and can be contacted by email.  The blog also has links to two justgiving pages for the charities.
