The walker had set off from Wasdale Head

A walker was found safe and well in the early hours after being reported overdue from a hike in the Lakeland fells.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at 11pm yesterday, Tuesday, when the woman’s partner called police to say she had not returned from a solo walk.

The walker had set off from Wasdale Head on a walk to Dalegarth campsite, Buttermere, but had not arrived at the site.

Sixteen members of the Cockermouth team joined colleagues from the Wasdale and Keswick Mountain Rescue Team and search dogs and handlers in the hunt for the missing walker.

A Cockermouth MRT spokesperson said: “The missing person was found having walked back into Dalegarth campsite at 1.15am tired but uninjured.”
