A teenager was rescued from a Lakeland fell after injuring himself.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called after the 16-year-old student trapped his foot and suffered an Achilles tendon injury while in Rigghead Quarries on Dale Head.

The team was alerted about 7.10pm on Wednesday but there was initial confusion about the youth’s location.

A local team member found the group he was with, and was able to contact the team’s controller who directed the other volunteers to the site.

The injured student was then stretchered from the fell down to Rosthwaite to a waiting ambulance.

The rescue lasted just short of 2½ hours.
