A woman was rescued from a Lakeland fell after injuring herself when she blacked out.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 5pm today, Sunday, and went to the aid of the walker, in Browney Gill above Great Langdale.

Kendal MRT also joined the rescue and the teams requested the assistance of a military search and rescue helicopter for the woman, who had fallen and banged her head.

While awaiting the arrival of the helicopter from RAF Valley in Anglesey, the rescuers managed to stretcher the walker to the valley bottom where an air ambulance was waiting.

The helicopter flew her to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment and the RAF aircraft was able to return to its base.

Thirteen members of the Langdale team were involved in the 2½-hour rescue, which was the team’s 65th of the year.
