A new tent offering panoramic views of the outdoor world has scooped the top prize for innovation at a trade show.

The Fjällräven Akka View 2 was overall winner in the Outdoor Trade Show Novel Awards, judged by a panel of industry experts.

The two-person tent from the Swedish brand offers wide views of the great outdoors thanks to its two extra large doors which can be rolled right back to provide a panoramic view of the countryside from the comfort of the camper’s sleeping bag.

The two-pole design features 30D triple ripstop polyester fly sheet with a 30D ripstop polyamide inner.

The groundsheet is in 70D PU-coated polyamide and the poles are constructed from 9.6mm aluminium.

The tent weighs 3kg and retails at £395.

The awards were made on the first day of the Outdoor Trade Show in Warwickshire, which brings together brand representatives and retailers, along with other outdoor industry bodies.

Category winners in the Novel Awards were:

  • Accessories: E-Case iSeries
  • Backpacks: Granite Gear Crown V.C 60
  • Camping equipment: Silverpoint C1 Camping Lantern
  • Clothing: Kozi Kidz Rain Overall
  • Footwear: Hanwag Lima Bio Boot
  • Tents and awnings: Fjällräven Akka View
  • Sleeping bags: Coleman Big Basin.

Organiser Marta Williams said: “This year, we received 20 per cent more entries than we did for the 2011 Novel Awards and the standard of all entries was incredibly high.

“We are delighted that the innovation of the seven winning products has been recognised by the judges for their innovation and can now be officially promoted as OTS Novel Award winners.”
