A group of four walkers were rescued from a Lakeland fell after getting lost in the dark.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team used mobile phone technology to find the walkers who were benighted on Gibson Knott.

Four team members found the walkers after being alerted at about 5.25pm today and led them to safety.

A team spokesperson said: “They had been delayed by a navigational error, and they couldn’t find the way off the ridge in darkness.

“We did the voodoo, located them, then sent a small group to retrieve them.”

The rescue took three hours.
