Walkers can feature on the cover of the customised maps

Outdoor fans ordering a custom map from Britain’s official mapping agency can now feature on its cover.

Ordnance Survey has added the picture-upload facility to its service that offers walkers and other outdoor enthusiasts the chance to have a map centred on the location of their choice.

Options include a customisable title, subtitle and picture. Previously, customers were able to select an image from a database of pictures to have on the cover. Now they can create a personal map by uploading any image they wish to feature on the map cover.

Robert Andrews, head of communications said: “The new option to upload your own photo is a fantastic addition making these maps truly individual. It is a quick, simple process to upload an image and order. I look forward to seeing people out and about with their personalised map.”

Customers can choose between 1:25,000 and1:50,000 scales. Custom Made Maps are available as a standard folded map or in a flat map suitable for framing or as a wall hanging. However, personalised photographic covers are only available on folded maps.

Cost per custom map is £16.99 and details are on the OS website.

  • grough is a commercial partner of Ordnance Survey in its grough route system, which offers a great route-planning system and OS mapping at 1:25,000, 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 of the whole of Britain for just £2 per month.
