The walker fell in the Glenderaterra valley

A walker who suffered only minor injuries in a 10ft in a fall in the Lake District was described as ‘very fortunate’ by rescuers.

The 34-year-old man suffered cuts and bruises and an injury to his hand in the fall on Boxing Day.

He was coming down the western side of the Glenderaterra valley near Blencathra when he tumbled 3m down a steep slope.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team turned out for the 100th time this year to the incident.

A team spokesperson said: “He called for assistance on a mobile phone, and some passing walkers assisted him down to, and across the beck.

“The team turned out two vehicles in the event that he had more extensive injuries, but by the time the first vehicle had arrived, it was clear that he had managed to relocate two dislocated fingers, and apart from that simply had cuts and bruises.

“Given the ground he fell in, he was very fortunate. He declined treatment, but was advised to seek medical assistance when he got home.

“The team did transport him down to Threlkeld village to meet up with his pre-arranged lift.”

The one-hour rescue involved 12 team members.
