A mountain rescue team was called to help recover the body of a missing woman in the Yorkshire Dales.

Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association had mounted a search for the woman from Buckden, North Yorkshire on Wednesday, without success.

The search involved 19 volunteers from the Grassington-based team who were altered at 10.10pm and searched for two hours before being stood down.

The team was called out yesterday at 3.40pm to help Yorkshire Ambulance Service recover the body on the riverside path between Starbotton and Kettlewell.

A local farmer helped in the operation.

A UWFRA spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.”

The team earlier this week went to the aid of three walkers missing on the Dales Way.

Four team members were called out on Tuesday afternoon to Lea Green north of Grassington after police managed to contact the three – two women and a man – to pinpoint their position.

One of the women with a sprained ankle was carried a short distance to a team Land Rover, which brought her back to Grassington
