Police have named the man who died on a Cairngorms mountain.

The body of Graham Connell, 31, of Castleford, West Yorkshire, was found yesterday on Jacob’s Ladder in Coire an t-Sneachda following a huge search for missing walkers.

Five others, members of the Leeds University Union Hiking Club were found uninjured a short time earlier 10km (6 miles) away on Carn Tarsuinn after spending a night on the mountains in freezing conditions and strong winds.

More than 100 mountain rescuers from eight teams joined the search, along with search dogs and handlers.

A Northern Constabulary spokesperson said a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
