A woman was airlifted to hospital after injuring her ankle on a Lake District fell.

The 58-year-old walker slipped near Scale Beck, above Crummock Water, today.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 2.20pm and 13 volunteer team members went to the woman’s aid.

The Great North Air Ambulance flew to the scene and after treatment on the fellside, the walker was airlifted by the helicopter to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven for further treatment.
