Rescuers have found a body on a Scottish peak where four people were killed in an avalanche earlier this year.

They were called to Bidean nam Bian in Glencoe after police were alerted to the incident.

Police received reports about 3.20pm on Friday that a climber had fallen on the munro, the highest in Argyll.

A Northern Constabulary spokesperson said: “Glencoe Mountain Rescue [Team] assisted by RAF helicopter R137 [from Lossiemouth] attended and carried out a search of the area.

“During this search the body of a 39 year old man was found.”

Police said no further details would be released until all the man’s next of kin have been informed.

In January this year, an avalanche killed PhD students Christopher Bell and Tom Chesters and doctors Rachel Majumdar and Una Finnegan on Bidean nam Bian.

There have been 12 deaths on the Scottish mountains this year.
