Rescuers have found the body of a skier following the avalanche in Glencoe.

Police named him as Daniel Maddox, 41, of Clackmannashire.

A Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team said the body was found earlier today after an extensive search involving many agencies.

The Lochaber team joined the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, an RAF mountain rescue team and the Glencoe Ski Patrol after the man, described as an experienced off-piste skier, was buried in the avalanche near Glencoe Mountain Resort yesterday.

A Sea King search and rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth also took part in the rescue operation.

The search, in snow up to 9m (30ft) on the western slopes near the ski centre, was suspended overnight and resumed today.

A rescue team spokesperson said: “Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team would like to extend our thoughts to the family.”
