The family got lost close to Piers Gill on the flanks of Lingmell

A family was rescued after getting lost while coming down from England’s highest mountain.

The group of four got lost yesterday on their descent from Scafell Pike.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 4.30pm after police alerted the team.

A Wasdale MRT said: “After speaking with them on the phone it was likely they were in the rough ground between Piers and Straight Gills on the north side of Lingmell.

“A limited callout was initiated to locate them, then walk back down to Wasdale.”

The rescue lasted four hours and involved 11 volunteer team members.
