The race involves the ascent of Arnison Crag

A runner in a Lakeland fell race was rescued after suffering a suspected broken ankle.

The runner was taking part in the Arnison Dash, run from the Ullswater Country Fair in Patterdale, today.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 3.25pm and carried the competitor to its base from where the runner was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary for further assessment and treatment.

The 3km race involves about 300m of ascent on its route up and down Arnison Crag.
